I have a degree in French and Anthropology, but soon after the
fog of college life cleared, I come to the realization that I
wanted to work as an artist, preferably in illustration. I am
currently looking for free-lance work--contact me if you crave
art. Some of my pieces are for sale--curious buyers are
encouraged to inquire. I prefer to work in oil, but I paint
digitally as well.
The driving aesthetic behind my work is
a persistent fascination with swirls, billows, furls,
tentacles, curves and coils. To my eye, the curved line
evokes more possibilities than a straight one. Not only does
it reflect elements in the natural world, which has always
entranced me, but it also suggests femininity and sensuality.
A thin, delicate swirl may convey fragility and vulnerability
whereas a thicker, more voluptuous one brings to mind a more
powerful, extravagant beauty. The
curling, coiling line is found everywhere in the natural
world: the furl of a fern, the bend of a tree, the fold of a
shell, the coil of a chameleon’s tail, the billowing wisp of
cloud. Transient yet ageless beauty that is both simple and
grandiose.
Beyond aesthetics, I enjoy exploring literature, especially
that of fairy tales and mythology, and the ideas of femininity
therein, which often bring me to question and overturn them.
My reverence for both fanciful stories and the natural world
compels me--sometimes I fear the fruits of my imagination will
lure me away into the dark and gleaming jungle, and I will be
lost forever.
