The Art of Anjin

I'm the youngest child of a large, boisterous family.  Growing up most of my siblings were more or less creative types: a cartoonist, an architect, a writer and several musicians.  So, from a very young age I was surrounded by a lot of creative energy and I began to draw regularly as a small child.  Basically, I just never stopped.

I was trained in traditional medium and I have to say that I've come to really prefer working in digital medium. The computer’s "palette" offers an almost incomprehensible amount of freedom. Indeed, the digital medium allows me to explore the boundaries of my imagination in a way that traditional materials simply could not hope to allow. I consider digital painting the new frontier in world of art.

A lot of my work reflects my experience working in the videogame industry.  You'll find a lot of "flash” and vibrant color. But my influences and interests are far broader.  They range from the "lowbrow" (action movies, magna, comic books and pin up girls) to classical portraiture and the art of the Italian Renaissance. I don't really care if it originates with Frank Miller or Michelangelo as long as it works.  Basically, I'm a visual eclectic. Evoking the spirit of the "pin-up girl" and classic portraiture, I want to offer a digital age take on familiar subject matter. I seek to create art that does not call attention to its digital origin. Ultimately, I just create images that I like and hope they speak to others in some way.
