The Photography & Crafted Works of D. Keith Furon

D. Keith was born in 1952, in Los Angeles, California. He currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. He studied at U.C. Berkeley, Edison State College, and U.C.L.A. As an art director and creative director, he has won over 200 national and international awards for his work. Much of his work has been sold through Sotheby's Auction House. His work is also part of the permanent collections of The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, in Boulder, Colorado, and The Museum of Modern Art, in New York.

Artist D. Keith Furon has evolved photographic art. His unique "Crafted Works" art pieces involve
hand-manipulated photographs transformed into three-dimensional, deconstructed pieces of sculpted art.
Many of the pieces involve other elements, from metal to fabrics to found objects,
turning the original photo into a multimedia result.
These one-of-a-kind artworks are then suspended in shadow box frames.
The original film negative is cut into pieces and attached to the art piece as proof
that there is no negative from which to make more prints in the future.
Each piece is unique and there is only one that will ever exist.

About the artist’s work:

While the human body is beautiful, a mere picture of it is not art. My art is about more than the body as a form. To me the body is an element of the storytelling. My creative intent is to project more than just the beauty of the body, but to make it a part of a larger concept that tells a story…evokes an emotion. I tend to gravitate toward images where the body is integral with the overall image. But it’s the overall image that has the power to move the viewer. I’m also a believer in the mystique of shadow and highlight, and that often what can’t be seen tells the viewer more than what can be. To me art is more about allowing the viewer to feel something, rather than simply showing them something.

I work primarily with real people as opposed to professional models, and many of them are nude in front of a camera for the first time. I feel that often that rawness comes across in my images.
