Frank's Tarzan illustrations from the early 1960s are some of my
Frazetta favourites. His interpretation of Tarzan as a savage and
mysterious beast of the jungle made a great impression on me. I have
tried to capture some of that mystique with my painting.
Tarzan the Hunter was made using acrylic glazes over a pencil
drawing. This approach was influenced by Frank's sketchbook drawings
that he coloured with watercolour. I also learned a great deal from
Frank's technique of applying layers of thin oil glazes to build an
image.
