"Thinking of Frank"

The painting was made using Frank's traditional technique, oil thinned with turpentine on canvas board.  It echoes the underpainting stage that Frank used in creating his full color creations.  He also used this simple, monochromatic approach for final art in a number of published pieces.

When I showed my illustration portfolio to Frank in 2000, he stopped at this piece and commented, "You're good".  After discovering his work 35 years earlier, I felt I had really accomplished something.
