“KADEN” was inspired by Frazetta’s “Conan the
Barbarian” series of paintings. I was particularly drawn to the
painterly quality in Frazetta’s work and his use of colour and form.
His work is very solid and grounded. The figures feel like they are
made of dense muscle and carry a sense of power. I wanted to create a
character in a similar fashion that embodied many of these qualities
that I was inspired when looking at Frazetta’s work.
I purposely kept the modeling precise but left
the surface slightely loose and painterly in order to capture light in
a similar fashion to Frazetta’s work. I also chose a solid, subtle and
confident warrior stance; gazing into the distance ready for the
adventures that lay ahead. I used an earthy colour palette while
incorporating various shades of violet and green into the flesh tones
atempting to capture the feel of Frazetta's pieces giving it a more
dynamic appearance overall.
The figure is 24” H and is cast in polyurethane
Resin.
Claudio Setti is a fantasy figurative sculptor driven
by his passion for the beauty of the human form. He began studying art
in Italy during his formative years and was lucky enough to learn
sculpture in a classical fashion, as it would be this type of
classical foundation the artist relies on extensively to “ground" even
the most obscure creations.
At 19 years of age he discovered the art of Spanish fantasy artist
Luis Royo:
“When I first saw Royo's work it was an airbrushed piece done by
another artist on a Harley Davidson gas tank. Immediately I asked the
artist about the piece and he told to go check out Luis Royo! I had
discovered my new mentor, especially when it comes to portraying
strong, beautiful, powerful, sexy female characters.”
Claudio has been
a professional Special FX artist and figurative sculptor for over 13
years, having created physical representations of game characters such
as “BloodRayne 2” and made props for movies such as “Resident Evil
Afterlife 3D”. Currently he is looking to branch out into the video
game industry.
