Cory
Smith is an artist based in the Chicagoland area.
I am a
freelance illustrator currently focusing primarily on pencil
portraiture. As a self-taught artist, I have not received any formal
training so to speak. My interest in art began as a child while watching
my father draw. I put pencil on paper and the rest is history. The only
education I received was a couple courses in figure drawing at the local
community college. It was there that drawing both the male and female
forms and learning about anatomy helped me develop my talent as an
artist and a sculptor. I have dabbled in many different mediums of art
including pencil and charcoal sketches, acrylics and oil on canvas,
murals, commercial window art and sculpting. After drawing with nothing
but pencil and paper for years, I started sculpting. In 11 years I
completed some 23 statues, mostly of Batman and Superman’s arsenal of
villains. My desire to develop a sketch book as a pencil artist led me
back to drawing where I began concentrating on portraits. I am currently
focusing on pencil portraiture while expanding my sketch book. My
original works of art as well as prints can be found at numerous
conventions throughout the US.
